Wow. I can’t believe that 2012 is coming to a close. It’s been a massive year which saw me take up blogging back in March as a bit of fun, and amazingly – people started to read Absolute Amy. I’ve covered topics from motherhood, fashion, charity events, reviews, beauty, recipes and giveaways. Thank you SO much to everyone who’s come and said hi, taken the time to leave a comment, other bloggers who have supported, inspired and encouraged me along the way and all the people who have shared what they’re loving in their life, because that’s what blogging is all about – sharing fashion finds, recipes, things for the kids and everything in between – so we can all live a more fun, meaningful and stylish life.
After a week of incredible fashion, air kisses, gift bags, champagne and way too much fun, we bid Perth Fashion Festival 2012 goodbye with a VIP closing party, Giving Back is the New Black at beautiful Government House.
My hubby and I. Spot Jenna Clarke’s sparkly Miu Miu shoes bottom right!
With the super talented Zhivago girls. I love that Lydia (far right) is rocking Zhivago at 5 months pregnant. Respect!
Canapes, wine and champagne abounded, then guests were ushered upstairs for a spectacular show of black evening dresses all made especially for the evening by designers like Morrison, Ange Lang, Poppy Lissiman, Ae’lkemi, Zhivago, Breathless, Little Gracie and Ellery.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi made a heartfelt speech thanking everyone for their contribution and support for Perth Fashion Festival 2012. The Governors wife Tonya McCusker then took the stage and mentioned that although Ae’lkemi was one of her favourite designers, their lace nude dress wouldn’t be appropriate for the Governors wife to wear.
Guests were then surprised with a parade of sensationally colourful creations that had been showcased throughout the week.
And so we bid adieu to the week that was Perth Fashion Festival 2012. What really stood out for me was the amazing support, creativity and passion not only for fashion and style but for all of the exciting things that are happening here in Perth and WA. We need to continue to nurture and support all of our amazing artists, designers, bloggers and small businesses that are flying the flag for ‘Brand WA.’
And now it’s time for me to swap my stilettos, gowns and champagne for ballet flats, jeans and babycino’s.
Until next year fashionistas. It’s been a blast.
What were your favourite events from Perth Fashion Festival 2012?
The WA Museum was transformed into a glittering 1920’s playground straight out of Boardwalk Empire for an Evening with Flannel on Monday night. Models were swathed in floaty, shimmering, feathered creations with pearls in their hair. Guests were treated to cocktails and champagne ahead of a delicious two course meal.
I was invited along to the event as Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi’s guest – talk about making a girl feel special! I’ve long been an admirer of Lisa’s; she is passionate, bright, inspiring and fascinating to talk to – she certainly had our table captivated. She’s also super stylish, glamorous and loads of fun. Sisters are doing it!
Glamorous social editor of The West, Di Bauwens in sequins and fur with style queen Emma Milner rocking a 1920’s tasselled number.
The champagne bar was created using a cardboard cut out – how clever! Would love to know what they’re going to do with it now?
Tomorrow on the blog, the VIP closing event for Perth Fashion Festival: Giving back is the new black! Oh what a night!
A crowd of glamorous gals and guys braved the stormy Perth weather for Zara Bryson’s Fashionably Loud in Brookfield Place yesterday. A parade of colourful spring time ensembles graced the catwalk to the sounds of indie-pop band San Cisco.
I finally got to meet the fabulous Zara Bryson, YAY!
Jenna Clarke always delights me with her whimsical outfits, this time it was a gorgeous cream cape with a knitted hat. Jenna is covering Perth Fashion Festival 2012 at WA Today.
Jill is the PR maven for radio stations 92.9 and 94.5, I spotted her outfit from afar and fell in love with the floral pants, lace top and neon neck candy – all from Zara Bryson shop!
Then it was time for me to dodge the rain and sidestep puddles in my ankle booties Carrie Bradshaw style in time for my next event, the Myer VIP evening.
What have been your favourite PFF 2012 events so far?
Last night Morrison kicked off the Perth Fashion Festival 2012 shows at the Perth Museum with a capsule ‘Retrospect’ collection of cobalt blue, crisp white, black and gorgeous green prints.
The collection was sleek and sophisticated and reminiscent of husband and wife duo Kylie Radford and Richard Poulsens work over the past decade of luxe everyday wear, while incorporating some more structured pieces.
The star of the night was undoubtedly the gorgeous guide dog who closed the show to a massive round of applause and drew a flurry of attention afterwards. One of his biggest fans was Premier Colin Barnett who came over to say hello.
Finally I got to meet the incredible Laura of Peanut Moonbeam Knickers, Laura has just completed 30 Days of Restyle for PFF. I’ve been following her blog for a few months now and love her super quirky style, last night she was wearing a fabulous floor length tutu.
I was also introduced to Wayne Cooper who attended the show with Perth businessman Wayne Teo and his lovely wife Amanda. He’ll be a special guest at todays Myer luncheon and VIP evening.

Perth Town Hall was transformed into a sea of glamorous fashionistas, designers and models last night for the VIP opening night of Perth Fashion Festival 2012 with One Fell Swoop showcasing their ethereal designs.
I had managed to get lucky last minute tickets to the show and had to perform my very own Perth Fashion Festival ‘Amazing Race’ when I realised my Aurelio Costarella dress was still at the tailors. I was rewarded by seeing the man himself upon arrival, Aurelio is a true gentleman – stylish, gracious and always happy to stop and say hello.
The One Fell Swoop collection featured lots of exquisite draping using earthy tones – so beautifully soft and feminine and ultra flattering for the female form.
My date for the evening was the one and only Lisa Fernandez from 92.9, she had fun catching up with Alvin Fernandez from WA label Ae’lkemi who are showing on Sunday night.
My other date for the evening was my style mentor Andrea Tonkin; Perth Myer Stylist and fashion blogger at AndAndrea. If you are not already following her, then do yourself a favour and make sure you do! We had a glass of bubbles with the glamorous Claudia Bertorello-Kell, always a pleasure to see her smiling face.
I also saw my gorgeous and very talented friend Lara from Zhivago, wearing a stunning nude Zhivago dress (but of course!). I am loving her navy dip dyed hair!
I love meeting new people and got chatting to the beautiful Roisin and Zak who I discovered own Alpha Models. I wasn’t surprised to later learn that both of them had worked as models themselves – they are both so ridiculously good looking! (and ridiculously lovely.)
We were all super excited to meet stylist extraordinaire Ivanna Fontana (far right) who is Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi’s stylist. As Lisa so perfectly put it, Ivanas name was destined for greatness! She was wearing a white drapey One Fell Swoop dress with black lace up heels, and was just SO beautiful. Sigh.
We are so lucky to have such incredibly talented designers in WA and I can’t wait to see what else Perth Fashion Festival 2012 has in store for us.
