Sonia’s Basic Face
I keep my makeup pretty basic most days (read: I have no makeup application talent whatsoever). Base, blush, mascara, lip gloss and I’m good to go.
By sticking to this routine, I’ve discovered some favourite products that I restock time and time again. These are the products I use every day for what I like to call my Basic Face…
For primer, foundation and concealer I use Inglot products. They are affordable and excellent quality. Well worth trying.
I am obsessed with blush. It gives your cheeks a beautiful wash of colour and makes your face come alive. MAC does the most amazing blushes in a huge array of colours. ‘Springsheen’ is my favourite, which is a light peach with gold pearl. Subtle and pretty.
Mascara seems to be the one product I chop and change with. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect product. My current favourite is Killer Curves by Australis. It’s super affordable and has the ability to make your lashes pop. My kind of mascara!!
I admit it. I’m a lip gloss addict. I can’t get enough. MAC Lipglass is the Rolls Royce of the lip gloss world. The quality, colour and staying power is second to none. My absolute favourite that I wear nearly every day is ‘Pink Lemonade’ – a peachy pink that is like my natural lip colour but better.
So there you have it – my go-to makeup look which takes me less than 10 minutes to do each morning.
I am on a never-ending quest for that ever elusive magical make up. I’ve found a couple of products that come pretty close, these are just some of my current favourites;
Lancome Teinte Miracle Foundation
This is a very new addition to my make up bag. It happened after I put a call out over Twitter for foundation recommendations. The gorgeous Maria from Crashing Red came to my rescue and said that this was the best she had found. After a trial, I decided that she was absolutely right! It provides a beautiful medium coverage and has a lovely silky finish.
Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
I started using this years ago to help cover my dark circles. I use it very sparingly now, usually when I’ve had a few sleepless nights and really need a bit of extra help, or if I have a special occasion.
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers
These eyelash curlers are a favourite among many make up artists, so I’ve been using them for the past few years. My eyelashes need lots of help, and these curlers seem to do the trick pretty well. (Although I could always use more help in this department!).
Lancome Hynose Mascara
As I just mentioned, I need lots of help in the eyelash area, and this mascara works quite well. With other brands, I seem to have a problem with the mascara transferring onto the top of my eyelids (is it just me that this happens to?) but this one behaves itself and stays put. I am always looking for an amazing new mascara if anyone can recommend one.
Loreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Freshly Candy
Australian beauty queen Zoe Foster recommended this lipstick in her book Amazing Face, and so of course I went searching for it. It is a lovely fresh shade of pink and is perfect for during the day, or at night with a slick of gloss.
MAC Eyeshadow in Phloof
Another make up staple that I’ve been using for years, this is a great base colour and a touch of this on the ‘v’ on the inner corner of your eyes really opens them up and makes them pop! (I read this somewhere in a magazine, so it must be true, right?).
