The WA Museum was transformed into a glittering 1920’s playground straight out of Boardwalk Empire for an Evening with Flannel on Monday night. Models were swathed in floaty, shimmering, feathered creations with pearls in their hair. Guests were treated to cocktails and champagne ahead of a delicious two course meal.
I was invited along to the event as Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi’s guest – talk about making a girl feel special! I’ve long been an admirer of Lisa’s; she is passionate, bright, inspiring and fascinating to talk to – she certainly had our table captivated. She’s also super stylish, glamorous and loads of fun. Sisters are doing it!
I spotted Candice wearing One Fell Swoop and stylist extraordinaire Ivanna looking fabulous in Kirrily Johnston, love love love the draping.
Glamorous social editor of The West, Di Bauwens in sequins and fur with style queen Emma Milner rocking a 1920’s tasselled number.
The champagne bar was created using a cardboard cut out – how clever! Would love to know what they’re going to do with it now?
Group love with some of the glam girls from the evening before heading home with our fab gift bags.
Tomorrow on the blog, the VIP closing event for Perth Fashion Festival: Giving back is the new black! Oh what a night!
I was recently invited along to a VIP night where I discovered Flannel’s beautiful designs – think luxurious fabrics in understated styles that you’ll want to wear again and again. I took five to find out more about this fabulous Aussie label.
Tell us a bit about Flannel:
Creating luxurious garments that could be worn everyday was the philosophy behind Australian designer Kristy Lawrence when she began her label Flannel. What began as a capsule collection of cotton and knitted loungewear in a neutral pallete, the label has now expanded to encompass soft leathers, colour pops of velvets and unique prints, accessories, silk evening wear and home wares.
Flannel uniquely combines a vintage feel with a modern edge that has the ability to span the generations. Sometimes classic and other times quirky, at the core of all of the collections is the use of quality fabrics that provide longevity through its timeless style. Flannel has five boutiques throughout Australia, that themselves reflect the chic bohemian personality of the designer. The label is also currently stocked in boutiques throughout America. Flannel has created a label full of covetable everyday pieces.
Afternoon Love Dress
If you could pick a celebrity to be the face of Flannel, who would it be and why?
I am thinking it would be Naomi Watts – she is a beautiful fresh faced Australian girl who would look amazing in any one of our garments. She is successful in her chosen career on an international stage, ambitious, friendly and a she’s a mum! All the things that we live and breathe at Flannel.
You use a lot of beautiful fabrics in your designs, where do you source them from?
We design our fabrics and prints in-house exclusively for Flannel, our production comes from different sources depending on the mood of the collection. Our next collection involves some exquisite beading and embroidery.
You have just opened a new store in Subiaco, Perth – congratulations! What else have you got planned for 2012?
We started the year with a trip to North America to explore how our brand fits into the American market. We have a very strong presence in America and would like to expand this, with the possibility of opening a shop in Los Angeles. We then leapt into the opening of our fifth store in Subiaco. A gorgeous white washed store that has our signature relaxed luxurious feel. The rest of 2012…..we are looking to open a store in Melbourne, a soiree showing in Sydney, launching our own basics range, expanding our shoe production…..the list goes on! It’s going to be very busy and exciting, so stay tuned!
